Member Types

As the pre-eminent organization for Destination Management Companies (DMCs), our mission is to:

  • Define the DMC industry
  • Uphold the highest level
     of professionalism
  • Establish standard business
     and ethical practices, and
  • Promote the value of local
     destination management
     through member and
     industry education.

In support of this Mission, ADME has the following membership categories:

Company Member/Voting Representative

Organizations must meet requirements to be members of the association. The primary criterion for membership is that to have the company be defined as a Destination Management Company (DMC). If the company fits the definition of a DMC, then it has met the first membership requirement. The remainder of the requirements are:

(a) Company must be a member of local Convention & Visitors Bureau, Chamber of Commerce (if no CVB exists), or Tourism Office. If these membership opportunities are not available, business must have representation in a Convention Industry Council member association.
(b) Primary focus of legal entity of company or division of the company must be that of destination management.
(c) Company must provide 4 out of 5 key services listed: through the office location in which the membership is held.

4. Transportation
5. Program Logistics

(d) Company must carry a designated minimum of $1,000,000 general liability insurance.
(e) Company must have a web site that accurately defines the DMC services offered.
(f) Must be in business a minimum of two (2) years
(g) Must be a sole proprietorship, partnership, company, corporation, or limited liability company.

Company will designate one voting representative. A Company Membership includes a total of 5 individual representatives, one of which is appointed as the voting representative for that company. Membership is location specific; offices included in one company membership shall be limited to 100
mile radius of the primary location. Additional representatives shall be from the location that has the membership.

Affiliate

Affiliate Membership shall be available to individuals who are the Executive Director or Designated Principal Member representing a franchise, consortium or other collection of destination management companies. If this member falls into any other voting membership category, that member shall receive a total of (1) vote. An affiliate membership includes a total of 3 individual representatives, one of which is appointed as the voting representative for that company.

Provisional

A Provisional Membership shall be available to those destination management companies that do not meet all of the criteria for Company member. The Membership Committee may grant provisional membership to companies that are missing no more of two of the three criteria listed in (c), (e) and (f) above.

All other membership criteria must be met.All criteria for full membership must be met before receiving full benefits of membership. When criteria are met, the member may petition to be granted company membership status. Provisional membership may be extended for an additional 12 months in order to meet the (2) years in
business criterion

Supplier Partner

Membership shall be available to designated representative of companies engaged in providing products and services related to the conduct and operation of Destination Management Companies and the meetings, events, and services they implement. There is no limit to the number of Supplier Partner companies permitted to join ADME.

Faculty

Individuals employed as faculty in graduate or undergraduate academic programs in Destination Management and having met one of the following requirements; currently teaching at least two classes per semester; or currently teaching at least one class per quarter; or at least four classes in the past academic year.

Student

Individuals enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate academic program directly related to Destination Management for at least six quarter or semester hours. Verification of enrollment is required.

Membership

Requirements

ADME members must meet certain requirements before they can become members of the organization. This assures a quality membership of dedicated professionals. In turn, this reassures the meeting and events management professional that companies chosen will perform the services at the highest possible level.

The primary criterion is to have a company that can be defined as a DMC. The definition of a DMC Company, as published in ADMExpressions, May 1997 and reprinted annually in the ADME Membership Directory is: A professional services company possessing extensive local knowledge, expertise and resources, specializing in the design and implementation of events, activities, tours, transportation and program logistics.

If your company fits the definition of a Destination Management Company, then you have met the first membership requirement. The remainder of the requirements are:

ADME Members are committed to Code of Ethical Conduct. The Association of Destination Management Executives represents the highest levels of Professional and Ethical behavior in the travel, tourism, convention and meetings industry. The association has adopted the Code of Ethical Conduct and its members use them as standards of honorable behavior by which they may evaluate their relationships with their organizations, suppliers, and colleagues.
